I am honorary auditor for residents association. I was asked by the treasurer if he has to keep manual Petty Cash book as in reality he is coping the information he has on spreadsheet to this book.
Bookeeping and accounts for this organisation are small and prepared on Excel spreadsheet specialy design for this purpose.
Does he need to carry on with manual Petty Cash ? Plesae help. Thank you.

    Hi

I can't see why he can't do it just on the spreadsheet, especially as he is copying it from the sheet into a book - seems pointless to me!

I do the books for a charity also and they keep their petty cash info on a spreadsheet only. The auditor has never had a problem with it.

Let me know if you hear different

    Regards
    Michelle

We are regisered auditors and have never questioned the fact that client's retain a spreadsheet rather than a manual petty cash book.

We switched from a completely manual system for everything to a fully computerised system a few years ago and for a while we were copying the computerised information back into our manual books to make sure everything was working OK. When our auditors checked what we were doing and were happy with it, they told us to just stick with the computerised records in future, and I think they prefer it that way too.
