I've recently started at college on the intermediate course and jus wondering if anyone else out there feels they're getting a rough deal. If your on a colege course is your work ever taken in for marking or do you have to self mark everything. Do you get any help with your portfolios? Our tutor is late for lessons - no tutorials - and just quotes from the book with no other woring examples - help! I'm disillusioned - need to clarify what they are actually paid for

I can recognise some of the things you say in my course, but in general I feel more postive about my experiences than you. There is less 'chalk and talk' teaching than was the case on the Foundation course. I suspect that this is down to the timescale involved in getting prepared for the December exam. Practice and identifying problem areas to go over with the tutor seem to be more valuable than having them standing at the front of the class lecturing. Similarly, I'd rather self mark and get on with as many exercises as I can rather than waiting for the tutors to mark things. I can read the answers in the back of the book just as well as they can.

I'm not really sure what help you expect with your portfolio at such an early stage unless you intend to use work based evidence to replace the skills tests. With the exception of Unit 22 (H&S), the vast majority of portfolio evidence is covered by the tests. Portfolio building is really not such a big deal.

What I am getting from the tutors, is a good set of notes, individual help with problem areas and plenty of tips and tricks that add to the material in the text books. In addition, our tutors are enthusiastic and motivating and I can't imagine either being late for a class without very good reason.

All in all, I've been very pleased with my college (Truro College) both with the Foundation course and the with the first couple of months of the Intermediate course. Even though the Intermediate level requires a fair bit of home study, I don't think I'd be anything like as motivated or as confident about the exam without the four hours a week at the college.

    Hi there,
Tutor in my college are very good, always there on time and they always make the lessons fun to learn. If you need any help or guidance don't hesitate to e-mail me at craigbisby2@yahoo.com. I am currently studying for ACCA with the DFS exam to do (AAT technician). I know that the intermediate course is a big step up from foundation as there is so much more to take in, anyway must get back to work,

Hi I am new to accounting and have been put on the correspondance course with A+. I definatley feel I am gettin a raw deal - no wonder accountants get this course free you get nothing for it. I get a lesson once every 2 months! I am supposed to teach myself nearly everything. I t will be a miracle if I pass foundation exams! Personally I wish I was going to college.
