I am current revising for my PEV exam which is in a week today.

Finding it all very confusing - especially the 1.2 and 2.2 sections (write a memo/report/notes sections). There seems to be sooooo many different answers to these questions and Im finding it really hard to answer them : (

Can any one help or at least let me know I'm not struggling alone!!!

Your not alone!! Me and most of my class are fairly happy with the figure work but when it comes to the memos we havent a clue what answer they want!

Not much help Im afraid, just wanted to let you know I feel exactly the same.

Ah well, this time next week it will be over! Then have PCR on Thursday to look forward to!

Oh dear, well at least I only have this exam to worry about until June. We arent doing PCR til next year. How are you finding that unit? - is it equally as confusing or is that unit much less demanding.

Good Luck! Thanks for letting me know I'm not on my own here!!!

    Hi

Remember exactly how you feel and after the exam it seemed worse because everyone seemed to have written different things, all of which sounded more plausible than my own. One thing you should try and remember when writing the memos is that they tend to be judgement calls, unless based on performance indicators then the figures must speak for themselves. I sat the PEV exam in June 2005 and know many people who made recommendations similar to mine but an equal amount who recommended the opposite. People from each camp passed and the important thing to remember is you must back up your recommendations with sound theories and calculations.

Good luck and try not to stress. The model answers for the memos are just that and are not set in stone so long as you can justify your theory.

    Hi Silver

I could win awards for panic and take it from me allowing panic to take hold only clouds your mind and jeopardises your chances of success. If you are starting to do things wrong now you've probably overdone it already - I had this feeling in the week leading up to PEV in June. I couldn't bring myself to close my books for a few days so I had to settle for short sharp bursts with plenty of dog walking and rest in between. In the last few days I was homing in on the theory side of things rather than number crunching - change is as good as a rest. I would settle myself in the conservatory with my books and past papers all around but things had already got so bad that I often found myself waking up not knowing where the last half hour/hour had gone. Try not to push yourself too hard as you really do need a clear head for the exam.

Something else our finance tutor kept telling us was one of her previous students was concerned at her speed and was convinced she had failed her exam as she hadn't managed to finish a single question. Don't let that panic you either - keep an eye on the time and when the recommended time for the question is up then leave it alone. If you gain time on another question you can come back to it later. This particular student was very methodical and efficient and she did pass even though there was not a complete answer on her paper. Remember quality not quantity. Actually watching the clock like that makes me panic more but it does discipline your time and makes you work more methodically.

Good luck and this time next year you will be sitting here relating your experiences at exam time, having put it all behind you!
