Advertising in return for cost of football club fees

Hi,

A client of mine has asked me about some possible advertising / sponsorship of a local football team.

He said he wants to make a contribution to the costs of playing in a local five-a-side league and in return the team name will be his business name.

I am sure it is allowable for tax purposes but I just wanted some confirmation.

Can anyone confirm this please.

Many thanks

Dave

Yes - it probably is allowable as long as it's for advertsing - the fact that the company's name appears on the shirt suggests that it is advertising.

This would be classed as advertising rather than a charitable donation as the club is small and local and would be treated as such for tax reasons.

Remember small donations of £250 or less to local charities/clubs are regarded as advertising effectively as any company/business that does so will no doubt get it's name in the paper or magazine etc.
