Re:PCR dec 2004 question 1.2 (b)
Hi,
As a maximum of 60,000 litres can be purchase each period you get the following:
P1 P2 P3 P4
Material Required 43,200 52,800 64,800 68,800
Max Litres Available 60,000 60,000 60,000 60,000
Surplus/Shortage 16,800 7,200 (4,800) (8,800)
As the increase in stock should be kept to a minimum you can only purchase what is necessary as close to the period in which it is going to be used.
In P3 and P4 you need extra litres as there is a shortage
4,800 + 8,800 = 13,600
So as you have a surplus in P1 & P2 in P2 you can purchase 7,200 litres extra which leaves 6,400 litres to be purchased in P1.
Which leaves:
P1 P2 P3 P4
43,200 52,800 60,000 60,000
Rescheduled 6,400 7,200 - -
I hope this makes sense and helps.

Re:PCR dec 2004 question 1.2 (b)
If you look at rows 76 to 126 on the answer I have given to this paper on http://www.cxgames.co.uk/sandy/
It might help as well
I will have to update this site - I stopped when the AAT started putting answers on their own site0 -
