ACCA or Chartered Accountants

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales is probably more friendly towards AAT students as they are affiliated! In fact, you can get quite good exemptions and fewer exams to do. See:

http://www.icaew.co.uk/careersaat/
<BR>

    ACCA or Chartered Accountants

    In summary:

1) None of the chartered or certified exams are easy to do.
2) They are both recognised as equal status.
3) ICAEW offers a fast track route for AAT members. ACCA offers exemption from stage 1 provided you have got AAT under the new standards. If you haven't got AAT under the new standards (but under the previous standards) you are exempt from the first two papers but must sit the final paper of the foundation stage.
I did the AAT and after working for years in accounting software I left to do a degree in accounting.

    The AAT is a great introduction, it gives you a sound basis to learn all the 'side' subjects like economics, law, international standards, advanced management accounting and statistics. However in terms of how more employable you become I dont know yet!

    It certainly gives you a chance for you to learn lots about other fields and gives you even more exemptions on chartered (3 more papers with CIMA on my degree anyway)

    Hi

    I wouldnt worry about the number of papers youd be exmept from on any of the qualifcations.

    For example, on CIMA you get exemptions from 5 papers leaving 10 papers to complete. ACCA only give 3 papers, but you're left with 11 papers to complete with slightly more flexible progression rules as you work up the paper.

    ICAEW give 1 exemption plus the posiblity of up to another two (having taken AAT 'top-up' papers). This may sound 'meany' but it would still only leave 9 to 11 papers anyway.

    So all in all the number of exmeptions given doesn't really make much difference.
