I have just started the Technichian stage of AAT. How big a step up is it from Intermediate?

The Intermediate stage was also alot about remembering things eg the equations during the ECR exam, how does this differ to technichian?

    Depends on the individual really.
Some people find it a big step up, and a lot more tricky, but I found that it wasnt that bad. Depends on what kind of experience you've had in your career. For example, I did a lot of tax work a few years back for my job, so I breezed the tax section on the technician stage, but others who hadnt any experience found it more tricky.

cheers, i do more management accounts at work such as budgets, accruals etc. Hardly ever look at tax. The volume of work for the year looks a gret deal thats all.

I've just completed the Drafting and Financial Statements, and Personal Tax modules. I found DFS had a lot of stuff to remember, much more than intermediate. Personal tax, although this was new to me, was much simpler and covered a lot less material.

The only thing I've found a step up from Intermediate is DFS. Apart from that Technician in my opinion is just more work rather than more difficult work.

There is still the formula learning - PEV and PCR have a lot of rote learning to them but a lot of the subjects do overlap which cuts down the amount to learn.

I don't think the amount to learn is any different. It is the same as Intermediate level where once you have grasped the methods, you have grasped the subject.

Thanks peeps. Ive been looking through old exam papers etc and trying to get a head start.

I get the impression at this stage we need to demonstrate we can do things, where at Intermediate examiners kept trying to catch us out.
