Hi,
I have finished my foundation and intermediate, finsihed them both in a year, i was doing it at night college.
Didnt find the tutors as useful as i found studying on my own.
As anyone expierenced both, what do you feel is better?
What is the best company to do home study with with and how do you go about doing the assements?

Re:Home study
Hi,
I am currently home studying with Premier Training after a recommendation on the forum.
The tutors are available from 9am till 8pm, they are very helpful and offer good support.
With each unit they send out the resource books and also short tests which you complete after reading certain chapters in the book. They are then marked and sent back to you with any comments.
If you need any more info, take a look at their website - www.premiertraining.co.uk
Hope this helps.

Can you choose when you want to take the assements?
Where do these take place?

Re:Home study
Hi
I've not done night school for AAT but done other courses that way and much prefer doing mine distance learning. I like getting on at my own pace. You do need to be organised and self motivated though as it is up to you to meet deadlines. I also use premier and for intermediate I had no problems. The osbourne books were great, they have good practice questions to get you ready for the exams.
I know there are some who wouldn't dream of not going to college but it really depends what kind of person you are. If your college is rubbish there is plenty of support on here and through distance learning tutors to save time and do it yourself.
Good luck,

Re:Home study
The project is a 4000 word study usually based on improving the accounting function in some way where you work. With Premier they sent out a text book which breaks down what you have to cover into easy sections. If you look at the portfolio sheets on this website for Technican unit 10 it shows the areas of evidence you need to cover but for e.g. all the managing people stuff can be written as what would you do if you were a manager (in case your not like me). So its not as scary as it looks.
Can also do skills test if you don't work but they prefer you to at least try and find some voluntary way of doing it or something if possible.

Re:Home study
You can talk to your tutor about the assessments and when you want to do them. I was due to take DFS in December, but due to circumstances was unable, so I talked to my tutor and was able to restucture my timetable so I can do the exam in June and the tax exams in December.
I cannot stress how helpful the tutors are, they all want you to pass the exams.
The assessments take place in a centre near to where you live.
The project is as described by ToriT.
