 With no offence i live in the northwest and i find it hard to get employment even the accounts clerk or a step in position into Accounting. At some point i was told i don't have UK 3 year experince. am waiting for my Technician Results on the 14/02 and have already registered with CIMA. Is it because of my Race or What? how will i have that experience if they can't let me prove myself maybe on temping or low position?

In this day and age, I really don't think your race has absolutely anything to do with job opportunities.

Experience and qualifications suitable to the job in question are what count not what religion you follow.

    Good luck anyway.

If you look back at other messages you will see that this is a common problem whether South African or British - it makes no difference.

    Good luck in your quest!

I agree with bluewednesday on this. There are lots of threads with people struggling to get their step on the ladder.

I don't know if it will help, but I do remember interviewing someone once for a part qualified position. The person had no previous experience but I chose to see them anyway as I felt that they may have been able to do the role and the agency really pushed them.

At the interview, this person practically begged me (literally) for the job. It was awful. He just kept telling me he would do anything I asked him to do, but please give him the chance. He didn't seem to realise his chance was the interview and that he hadn't told me anything (understanding of accounts) to make me feel he could do the job.

Try not to push your need for the job and instead concentrate on getting across at interview how well you are doing with your studying. Show your understanding of the subjects by talking about the areas the job is asking for with knowledge. If it is a role that involves management accounts, talk about the trial balance and typical journal entries such as prepayments and accruals that you would expect to do. Try to demonstrate your understanding of debits and credits.

If you can't talk the talk and don't have the experience, you cannot expect an employer to risk his / her time and effort in training you.

    Re:Does Race mean anything?

The most important things these days is attitude. If you continue to blame everything on your race then you are not likely to succeed. This world is very competitive and it is said that the majority of workers (80%) in the South-East by 2010 will be non whites. So if race is a big problem then this statistics/forecast can't be right.

Most employers want somebody who they can work with. If someone wants preferential treatment just because of what they are and their beliefs then they are living in the past. We have a global economy and employers will employ whoever is most suited for the role.

Ageism is a problem but we'll have a new law coming soon from end of this year so one won't have to state their DOB on the CV. In fact I never put my DOB anyway!

    Hope this helps.
