Hi All and Happy New Year,

As a new year resolution I've decided to take my arse in my hands and try going self employed. I'm AAT Qualified recentely but am after some adice if anybodys got any.

Also, if theres anybody self employed out there who uses excel for their accounts, please would it be possible to have a copy of the spreadsheet or a sample of it (i'm probably going to use excel at first). Hope O'm not being too cheeky.

    Hey,

    What would you be looking to have in the spreadsheet?

    There isn't (probably) a set one that is the same, everyone does there bookkeeping differently.

    If you could give me a rough idea of what you would be looking for i could try and pull together a rough skeleton of one?

    I am also interested in how others work from home. So any advice would be extremely grateful.

    If there is a skeleton copy of a excel spreadsheet could I please also have a copy.

    For a simple book-keeping and accounts production excel based solution, I would recommend VT Accounts from:

    The cost is £199 + VAT but it also includes a TRANSACTION book-keeping software and it can cater for unlimited number of clients.

    We use the digita software, it's independent of excel and produces the final accounts, very easy to use you can just use journals, import from sage etc.

    I did have a look at VT accounts, I can't say it was any near as flexible as the digita package.

    We use an simple excel sheet for self employed if you want a look at that, it totals up the columns so they can just be entered into the self assesment.
