    Re:ATT and Interview

I haven't done the ATT course and it was quite a few years ago that I studied the final stage of CIOT but at that time, ATT was the AAT equivalent of ACCA/CIMA/ACA etc.

I have been thinking of taking the ATT exams and under the current syllabus would be exempt from two out of four of the papers but the exemptions become invalid once the syllabus changes and I would lose the £90 I would have to pay for the exemptions. December 2006 is the last examination sitting under the current syllabus and a new modular one comes in to effect. As I don't want the pressure of having to pass this year (although obviously that would be the aim), I have decided to wait until March when LexusNexus bring out the 2007 syllabus and study that.

For more information on ATT, their website is pretty good: http://www.att.org.uk/index.pl?n=100

    Hope this helps.

    Re:ATT and Interview

ATT is not the equivelant of ICAEW etc this is complete balls. ATT is the tax specialisation for AAT which simply adds onto the qualification a more in depth knowledge of all aspects of taxation ie personal, business, capital gains, VAT and inheritance tax which isn't covered at all at AAT.

ICAEW/ACCA etc have their own specialist tax qualifications that can be done after completing the repective qualification.

    Hi John T,

I think what TLG was trying to say is that ATT to CIOT is like AAT to ACCA/ICAEW not ATT is an ICAEW equivalent. Not complete balls - just a misread post on your part I'm afraid.

Not quite sure what you mean about ACCA having its own tax qualification - I'm ACCA and have never heard of their tax qualifcation - have I missed something perhaps? I know they have an advanced tax paper option at level 3 - is this what you are referring to?

    Hi

ACCA and ICAEW dont have a tax qualification, though ICAEW (and I think ACCA) have a tax faculty that members can subscribe to.

I thought not. Perhaps John T was referring to tax faculties as you say, Neil. However, I don't think the ACCA have them. I've never been asked to subscribe to audit/tax faculties and have never come across such a think in our members publications/journals.

    Re:ATT and Interview

Thank you all for your replies, what I was hoping was someone could tell me how many units were in the course and whether it was like he AAT qualification. Anyway, went for the interview to find that someone within the company wants the job, but they want to find me a position within the firm as they liked my CV. So should I wait and see what happens or should I still look for something permanent elsewhere.
I know someone out there will have some pearls of wisdom because at the moment my brain feels fried after an evening at college and I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi

It wouldn't hurt to look around while you are waiting to hear what it is they are prepared to offer you.

Keep your options open, you never know what's around the corner.

Have you looked on the website for ATT it is very good. I got the impression it was structured in a similar way to AAT.

    Good Luck & Regards

    Re:ATT and Interview

Got to agree with Krispi, the ATT website is very good (which was why I posted the link). I would also recommend continuing to look around - you have no guarantees with this company and should not waste other opportunities, in my opinion.

With regards to number of exams, this again would depend on which year you are taking the exams and which exams you would need to take which was why I gave the link. This year I believe it is four exams of which certain qualifications will exempt you to two, whilst next year there are no valid exemptions (unless you are carrying exam passes from this year forward) and more choices whilst retaining some core exams.

I would recommend still looking at their site and possibly even consider studying ATT without employer sponsorship to assist with your job searching.

    Re:ATT and Interview

Thank you to everyone who has answered my question. I think I will keep looking at present in case nothing comes of this interview. I also think I will finish my last exam this June and then look into doing the ATT when I have rested my brain for a bit and had some time out with tmy family.
so again thanks to all of you.
