Hi anyone

Concerning this CPD. I work in a small company where I am the only accounts person. I do most things except for payroll and final accounts, which are outsourced,(I do gather all the information for these though). If this is made mandatory how am I going collect my evidence or am I missing the point.

    Hi

CPD is usually acheived through attending relevant courses, work shops, personal reading/research etc that relate to your career in general and the specific issues youre involved with and/or skills and knowledge you wish to develop. Work place experience doesnt usually count towards CPD.

Try having a look at the CPD sections of the website.

Thanks Neil, I will do that. Maybe I should consider taking some courses.

    Have a lovely day : :D

    Re:CPD

As I understand it, CPD does not have to be courses and is not work experience. What I try to do is read up on those topics (magazines or the internet) which I am likely to use or just find interesting and spend some time writing a small piece on what I have learned. Courses are great, when you can find time. There is so much CPD out there on the internet, just waiting for you to read it.

    Hi

Although workexperience alone is not CPD, structured 'on the job' training (be it your employers or a formal scheme) can count as CPD.

Apparently, according to the Members' General Forum, they're 2 years out of date!!

"The AAT's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) policy is changing. AAT Council approved the revised policy after lengthy consultation with the membership."

Was that the postal questionnaire? I don't remember an especially lengthy consultation, but would be happy to read the results of it.

Will the new scheme have CPD assessed by someone in the AAT - will they sample/attend your workplace courses to see if it is suitable?

    Although the website says this:
    "The Accredited CPD Employer Route
Employers who demonstrate that they recognise the value of learning in the workplace, and whose learning and development programmes adequately and effectively include the principles of the CPD cycle - Assess, Plan, Action and Evaluate, will soon be able to apply for AAT Accredited CPD Employer status. The application process will be robust, and the AAT will scrutinise those employers learning and development procedures.

If you work for an AAT Accredited CPD Employer you will be able to meet the CPD requirement simply by taking part in CPD through your employers learning/development practices. Your employer would ensure that appropriate records were kept and would make these available to AAT upon request.

By vetting and approving the employers learning and development procedures the AAT will be able to ensure that members working for AAT Accredited CPD Employers are effectively using the principles of the CPD cycle and complying with our CPD requirement.

Guidelines, criteria and an application pack for AAT Accredited CPD Employer status will be available here before the new CPD policy is introduced from 1st January 2007."

I know for a fact that the second-biggest Government Department, with hundreds if not thousands of AAT students and members, has made no moves to become accredited. If they haven't, will others bother?

    Hi

Well I cant comment on companies becoming or not becoming approved employers, but if you document work based training (i.e. have it appraised by your employer) you may still be able to count it towards CPD.

As for referring to the CPD sections of the website, I was recomending it for finding out about what CPD was. I would really recomend it as a CPD resource.

    Re:CPD

My employer started to send me to different courses relevant to my role in the firm. I have already attended 3 and have all the books, but how do I keep a log book? Do I need to register with the AAT body or notify them or is there a formal workbook or something I need to fill in continuously, which to be presented to the AAT for qualifying for the FMAAT grade? and does my employer need to register for this?
I read through the requirements and all CPD info available on the website and now I am very confused about what I need to do... It looks like there are endless options but which are valid and appropriate in cases like mine I could not determine firmly.
    Any ideas on that?

The online CPD log in the CPD zone of the website is where I record all mine.
