Catch 22!!! Relevant Accounting Experience.

I am sure that there are other members out there like myself. I have been accredited M.A.A.T. status, however, I work in a limited purchase ledger environment which does not give me the required practical skills to maintain the proffesional level achieved. I have found that since finishing A.A.T, many of the skills learned have become "rusty" or even forgotten.

I am also finding it difficult finding alternative employment due to lack of practical experience, coupled with my age (a very young 44) employers don't seem to be interested in offering me a position. I know that CPD courses are a good way of continuing your studies and keeping abreast of new legislation in accounting but this is no substitution for practical experience.

I am beginning to feel that all the hard work put in to achieving M.A.A.T was irrelevant!

Any feedback would be appreciated!

    Siany.

Although i understand your feelings, there is no need to be despondent. The very fact that you have completed your AAT qualification speaks volumes, even more so due to your job.

A lot of employers prefer the more 'mature' applicant.

Keep plugging away and keep smiling :-)

Thanks Scotty!! But less of the "mature" please lol.

Of course you are right. The right opportunity will come along eventually I'm sure. I just need to be patient. In the meantime I am enrolling on some CPD courses and studying the Foulks Lynch ACCA study textbook on business taxation. Perseverance is my middle name!
