Sage Accounts Production Software - Advice Needed.

Hi Guys,

Just want a bit of advice if any of you can help me.

The practice I work for currently uses Iris to produce all the accounts and tax stuff. They are considering a change from Iris to Sage Accounts Production. I have been given a copy on my laptop to "play around" with as I have never really used it before and the partners want me to let them know how user friendly it is before they go ahead with the changeover.

Before I start messing with it do any of you guys have experience of using this program? Is it relatively easy to use or not? I have been given a half hour training session with the guy from Sage today but obviously he couldn't go into the fine detail of it.

Thanks for any advice.

Kind regards
Steve

    Hi

I use Sage all the time now. I hadn't touched it before April 05.
I found sage much more user friendly. It is simple to use and well laid out and most reports are at the click of a button.

I never really had any training before I used it and found my own way round the system easily. Compared to other programs I have used Sage is by far the best in terms of user friendliness.

    Hi Steve

Ive been using Sage for about 7 years, I think its great to use, theres lots of little tricks you can do on it, and ways of editing things like sales invoice layouts etc so you dont have to buy Sage stationary.

I think its a good system to use & very user friendly.

Ive never been trained on it, like Michelle Ive just played around with it and couldnt be without it now. It does have help guides on there and also comes with a big thick manual so I'm sure there would never be a point were you were really stuck on something.

    Regards

    Oops Sorry Steve

I misread your message and I have answered incorrectly. I use Sage Line 50 which is an accounting package although there is another product on the Sage website which is called "Sage Accounts Production". which must be the one you have got.

I'm quite interested in the accounts production software if its any good although I tend to do my year end accounts on excel spreadsheets from the trial balance and then I use a normal word document to do my abbreviated accounts. As I only deal with the "little fish" as it were this works okay for me.

I currently use Iris but the practice is looking to change to SAGE due to various grievances with Iris and their high charges.

I seem to prefer Iris as I'm used to it now but anyway we'll see.

    Thanks for your replies.

So whats your thoughts on Sage so far then?

Regardless of cost, if it isn't broke, dont fix it

The demonstration was very brief but at the end of the day it still does the same as IRIS but differently. I suppose it is like riding a bike (or learning to use Iris) - once you've mastered it it's quite easy.

The partner who asked me to try it does have valid reasons for wanting to move from Iris. Iris seem to be very slow where progress is concerned. For example, when I called into the office today I had received a press release from Iris informing its users to download an update to enable International Accounting Standards and an amendment to FRS17 to take effect! IAS's affect year ends 31st December 2005 and they only send the update out now!

The other problem with Iris is that I had a client who had sold some shares in France, had french tax deducted but Iris couldn't cope with foreign tax deductions on the capital gains computation! Very odd.

Oh I see. You sound like you use the complete business suite, whereas I only use the Final Accounts program...

All my computations are done manually with excel.
