Re: Introduce yourself 💬
Hi everyone 👋,
I’m Aashok Kumar Sharma, and I’m delighted to join the AAT community. I am a finance professional with over 16 years of experience, and I recently founded Aashok F&C Advisory.
My practice is dedicated to helping startups and SMEs move "from numbers to decisions" through stronger financial controls, audit readiness, and MIS reporting. Based in India but serving clients globally, I’ve always believed that the best results happen where financial intelligence meets compliance excellence.
I joined this forum to connect with fellow professionals, share insights on global compliance/ERP improvements, and stay updated with the collective wisdom of the AAT network.
Whether you are a fellow member or a finance leader, I’m looking forward to some great discussions!

Re: AAT level 3 bookkeeping to AAT level 4
Hi @Mun123
With exams yes most theory may remain the same but it is ideally good to use the latest books because they prepare them according to the exams

Re: Introduce yourself 💬
Hi everyone 👋
I’m really pleased to be part of the AAT Community.
I’ve recently achieved MAAT status and have also received my AAT Licensed Accountant certificate. I have around 4 years’ experience across UK accounting practice and industry, working on a broad range of areas including bookkeeping, VAT, personal tax, corporation tax, IHT, reconciliations, and supporting month-end and compliance work.
I’m currently working alongside ongoing professional development and looking forward to learning from others, sharing experiences, and contributing where I can.
My goal is to continue developing as a well-rounded accountant, deepen my technical knowledge, and grow within practice while delivering high-quality work for clients.
Outside of work, I enjoy learning new things and taking time to recharge.
Looking forward to connecting with everyone 😊

Hi Everyone,
My name is Trevor and I gained AAT Level 3 in 2024. I work in IT as a software consultant, but took the path of accounting qualifications to aid me in my interactions with those who work in the office of finance.
I am aiming to maintain my bookkeeping licence via CPD and additional qualifications, but my day job is in IT.
I look forward to interacting with you all.

Re: University
You can obtain a Bsc in Applied Accounting if you complete an extra unit (a project) whilst doing the ACCA. So you would get the both worlds. The only thing you are missing is the 'uni life' but on the other side of that, you would also not have the £25,000 plus debt at the end of your studying.

Re: From Receipts and Payments to Accruals
@FionaMessenger Yes you would only convert 2024 to do the comparator between the years. There is no need to resubmit the 2024 accounts, you just need to provide a statement on the 2025 accounts that the 2024 accounts have been restated.
Re: From Receipts and Payments to Accruals
Assuming you are also preparing comparative financial information (reporting the last years accounts to compare against this years), you will need to do a restatement of the 2024 accounts to turn them into accrual accounts.

Re: Is success fee (no win no fee basis claims) by solicitors is vatable?
I agree with you and VAT is chargeable
Re: Claiming input tax correctly for 2 linked companies
As always with VAT ‘who is supplying what to whom’
The only business that can claim the input VAT is the one receiving the supply, it does not matter who pays for it.
Would it not be easier to just loan a set amount to the Company and then they can pay the bills, seems to me the way you are doing it regarding every bill could become very messy.
I take it when you say business group you do not mean a VAT group?
