Re:Study Buddy
Just move the [/quote] tag from the bottom of your post to under the bit you want to quote.
I'm no spring chicken but that doesn't mean I have to like Cliff Richard after all punk happened in the 70s too

Re:Study Buddy
Tried that - not worth getting hot & bothered about.
Yeah CJC, but I was a "laidee" - not into all that gobbing!
I must have pretty wide tastes, as I also liked Black Sabbath and Status Quo - bit different to Cliff. And I can remember the first time I saw David Bowie on Top of the Pops and justing going "wow"
He was dressed in some funky green leotard thing.

Re:Study Buddy
I saw Cliff in concert years ago and Alvin Stardust's parents stayed in my parents' hotel when he was known as Shane Fenton!
Anyone old enough to remember John Miles?
Oh well, back to the oxygen tank.

Re:Study Buddy
Well I thought about doing some more work on my project - really I did.I got as far sketching out a flow chart and realising I could really do with a decent drawing program, not being sure if photoshop (or my PS skills for that matter) will be up to it.
Ultimately, though, I've done bugger all this weekend0 -
Re:Study Buddy
The only trianglular relationships I have are with Toblerones!
Please don't laugh, but I have seen Cliff 3 times in the 90s and I have all his singles on CD. 'Miss You Nights' and 'Some People' are his best hits.
'Music was my first love' so said John Miles. I remember when it first came out and it's in my collection somewhere.
Bernard Jewry aka Shane Fenton aka Alvin. Although I'm not THAT old, I do like 60s music.0 -

Wow - Malcolm you little raver! I like 'The Young Ones' - it was number one in the week I was born!
John Miles was brilliant live - saw him a few times. He ended up touring with Tina Turner as her MD.
Last group I saw live was Scissor Sisters - have to keep up with the times! They supported Elton John and were the best bit of the evening.

Re:Study Buddy
Take back the 'little raver' label. In March I'm seeing Westlife at Wembley Arena.
At least they sing live (Steps didn't) and their versions of 'Beat It' and 'Don't Cha' are really good. Some good songs too.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I haven't been top any pop concerts, but have been to a few ROCK concerts.

Could we attach vocals to the calendar, then you could sing it...!0 -

I still listen to Black Sabbath even though I was too young at the time! Never into the Quo though, far too MOR! 80's metal was really my scene with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth etc, long hair, leather bikers jacket and all! See my calendar pic with the black nails and my Metal up your ass t-shirt!
Malcolm. Westlife. Jesus wept... Are you proud of that?!!

Re:Study Buddy
Well, funny you should say that - whilst I was mightily annoyed at Man Utd throwing away a 9 point gap at teh top of the premiership0 -

Re:Study Buddy
westlife are good, personally I wouldn't see them in concert but I do like a lot of their songs.

Re:Study Buddy
Of all the naff pap groups I've despised over the past few years, I think Westlife are the creme de la creme of craptacular and epitomise everything that's currently wrong about British music.
This is a group that are fast approaching the record of most UK number ones ever held by Elvis, closely followed by The Beatles. They'd even sing Cradle of Filth if they thought it'd top the charts and get them one step closer.

Re:Study Buddy
Yeah but they have millions of fans! Mainly teenage girls i know but its what sells records! like any other artist they will only get the number ones if the fans buy the albums!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
But it takes less sales now to reach number one than it did in the old days...
:roll:0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I know but people seem to have a thing for cheesy boybands which means compared to other artists arund they tend to do better than them! I know it takes less sales but only because all the artists are not as good as they used to be so less people are buying the same album.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I must defend myself. I like the songs, be they covers or something churned out by a Scandinavian writing factory. "You Raise Me Up" for example, originally performed by Secret Garden I believe, is a wonderful melody.
I don't care who performs it, so long as its sung and/or played well. I'm just as at home playing air guitar to Van Halen's 'Eruption' or chilling out to the likes of Vangelis.
As for Weslife's chart pedigree. Okay, with 13 number ones, they are fourth behind Cliff, The Beatles and then Elvis but they have only achieved that by the number of qualifying sales a single has to reach these days to chart. These days sell a couple of hundred and you can chart quite high. So although it looks impressive, their achievement is quite superficial.
I welcome the new rules re downloads as the charts will reflect the music tastes of the time as opposed to what radio controllers and record label owners want us to like and buy. Also, as downloads on their own qualify as a sale, we shall return to the days when songs actually climbed up and down the charts as opposed to entering at number one and dropping several places the following week. McFly fans take note!!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Crikey, you know Van Halen's "Eruption" Malcolm? A quick sub-two minute of chilling but electrifying guitar burst! Followed by THE ultimate version of "You really got me"!
I also like Vangelis too, especially the more accessible "Bladerunner" soundtrack.
There was a geeky electronics programme on TV a couple of years ago about how to get your own chart number one. All you really have to do is buy a computer with a music making program and a USB keyboard or something similar. Make your tune, sample/mix it with the computer software then upload it to one of the several qualifying chart sites available on the net. Then just get you and all your mates to download your song at a quid a pop. They reckon that around three thousand downloads in the same qualifying week, will secure your number one slot! And then chavvy showbiz columns like Bizarre in 'The Sun' will splash you all over their pages parading you as the latest hot thing despite secretly not knowing who you really are!
Minted!

Our next challenge?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I think so Helen. I reckon we should maybe sample the guitar riff from "Smoke on the Water", add a heavy drum and bass beat, then sing some awful rap-type green lyrics about global warming or something.
Personally, I'm all for global warming if it means we don't have to suffer snow down here! Southerners just don't know how to cope with it!
