Accounting Programs/Excel

Hi there,
I am looking to go self-employed doing bookkeeping soon and wondered if anyone could give me some advice regarding what computer programs I might need.
I will be looking for some private work but am also hoping to get some sub contact work from local accountants. I have excel on my computer and am wondering if it is worth investing in Sage or similar. If I was to do some work for local accountants what sort of software might they expect me to have?
Thanks in advance.

It depends what sort of clients they have. If its mainly small business etc, itll be Sage, Quickbooks, & possibly Office Accounting

How experienced or proficient are you at Excel? There are training courses available, & you can even become a Microsoft Office Specialist if you do an exam

Guys
Try this link for free MS office and Accounts package, all you have to do is sign up to the accountancy professional network and it is direct from Microsoft, obviously they are relying on you guys promoting it and selling it on to your clients but this is no different from Sage etc.
