Hi,
Has any one had anything to do with recovering tax on an employee who purchases tools purchased privately. The tools have been bought over the last ten years and they are allowable. I just not sure about the best way to approach it.
Are you able to recover tax on such old expenses?
There are websites available that will recover the tax for you but they take a 30% cut.
I can't understand how they do it, will they be filling a SA tax return for their client?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I claimed my husbands tools and equipment as he is also a mechanic. If I didnt have the receipts I claimed using the flat rate route (not much a rebate using the flat rate but if its a rebate its worth it!) I completed a tax return (because he is also a director) but I believe you can phone the HMRC or fill out a form.

If you haven't completed a tax return you've got five years from the 31 October following the end of the year concerned to get the relief

If you go to the HMRC website and type in the search bar "Tax relief for specialist tools or clothing " it should give you all the details for a successful claim.

If you have any problems let me know by email on info@paperstorm.co.uk and I will forward the details onto you.

It is very straight forward and not worth going to these people who take a cut!

    Good luck :)
