Pay Increase after completing AAT? your comments...

To Portsmouth AAT,
Yes I did receive a pay rise (more significant than anything previous) for completing AAT. IMO I believe you also should receive a rise for successfully completing a professional qualification that takes a fair amount of work and dedication to get though - these efforts should be rewarded.0 -
This may not be very helpful, but have you ever considered if the NHS would sponsor you if you were studying either CIMA/CIPFA instead?
Studying for the chartered level can get expensive on your own, I have already taken two units by own study (Text books and a learning CD). My employers would help with payments for courses but are not willing to spend the £ 1,000+ amounts.
Thank you, and yes i have considered this. I do not want to study CIMA, but would not object to doing CIPFA, the only concern i have with this is with the current economic climate, i am not certain that i want to limit my employment options to the public sector. Although i do hope to stay within the NHS, we have taken on the very strange policy of not back filling vacancies....the problem with this, is what is my future there?0 -
does any one else get rewarded after completing each level of AAT?
Yes, I got the reward of "not being dismissed"... We aren't all as lucky as you; when I qualified two years ago I made £14,000 and I'd been with the company three years.
Just wanted to let those on less generous packages know they're not alone.0 -

Thanks I think from all the replies the general gist is most people got a rise after completing! regardless of starting pay/job etc. Its what I wanted to hear and will help me broach the subject on my review!!
Thank you all for you help/comments and the more sinarios received the better. :001_smile:
I shal post on here the outcome!! does anyone have any suggestions on what to ask for? im thinking of asking for 26-27k lol and will accept 25k or im gone!! think thats fair from £22,177. :thumbup:0 -

Im worth every penny and my line manager will also be behind me, always helps wen boss only sees me once a week due to his base being somewhere else!! :thumbup:0 -

You work in practice don't you Mark? How do you know she isn't as good as you because she's working in industry where you often need a different skill set and be more of an all rounder? Qualifications alone don't set salary levels.
All my accounting experience has been in the manufacturing and service sectors, where I can use my previous planning/quality control/auditing skills and I think I'd find working in practice far too limiting for my tastes.
As for Portsmouth AAT, I'd say with suitable experience to back up your qualifications, around £28-£30k for the south east.
As for the thread in general, if your employer requested and is making use of the qualification then they should at least consider a salary increase in accordance with increased skills. And if they didn't and aren't, then why should they? Everyone has a choice in their job - they can always leave.0 -
You and your sensible answers blobby! I dont know?
I think we should all be on at least 30k before we complete Technician, wouldnt the world be a nicer place?0 -

Thanks for that its around the figure I would like to aim for, I do have relevant experience, 2 years in this job and 5 years with the company, and have taken on alot of responsabilaties above what was expected of me and the general response from management is they are more than happy wif my work. So i cant see why they wouldnt, I havent asked yet just preparing for my meeting soon!! all info helps and knowing what others got etc makes me more confident in what I discuss.0 -

Mark - The thread was set up for these reasons in particular and your comments about this are appreciated. :thumbup:0 -
As PAAT has said, this is a serious thread for serious comments so if you genuninely have something serious to contribute Mark then please do so. It's just that overly flippant or irrelevant comments (from anyone - and yes, I'm sure I've done too in the past) on "proper" threads are often not welcome and dilute the topic.0
