Cash Book remit dates

Hi guys,
Random question, I cannot seem to find a definite answer on this.
When posting remittances received to a cashbook (using computerised accounts) do I use the date on the remittance e.g remit date on the doc 25/06/2017 but did not go through the bank till 30/06/2017. So is it the 25th I use or the 30th? a clear answer would be perfect as the internet is currently so unclear on this matter.
I sometimes also receive remittances in the previous (but in current month) mouth that do not actually clear till a month later.
