Using Cloud Based Software for my first client

Hi,

I've just started working as an AATQB Bookkeeper. I have my first client, they have only just started as a business and have nothing in place. I would like to get their bookkeeping and accounting software set up for them, however, I am not sure of the etiquette.

I have set Xero up for invoicing for my own company. Do I buy another version for them? Obviously I want to keep them separate. Do I get them to pay for the software and give me their login details? Do I set it up and recharge them for it?

It would be good to know what the general rule is.

I think it's up to you, as some clients will come already set up on a particular software, others will expect you to advise on the best software for them. As you are the bookkeeper it makes sense that you get to chose the software you are most comfortable with. Also take into consideration that most software companies offer a better deal when you are the agent (depending on the number of licences) than a stand alone business so you can pass on the savings to the client.
