Hello everyone,

I'm filling application form for AAT Licensed Bookkeeper. In Part 2, section 2.2 Work Experience I should confirm my work experience related to the services I want my license to cover. Exactly under VAT section there are following areas in which I should confirm to have an experience to be able to provide this services. The areas are:
  • preparing quarterly VAT returns
  • correcting errors to VAT returns
  • advising on Making Tax Digital (MTD)
  • advising on VAT registration thresholds.
I have work experience in preparing and submitting VAT returns, correcting errors and discussing VAT registration options with my clients. However when I worked, there was no MTD requirements. I have theoretical knowledge now, but not a practical experience. At the moment I am confused because I have to confirm that I have work experience in all of the above areas. And if I don't tick this box, will I be approved to work with VAT? If not, how can I gain experience needed if I am not allowed to provide the service?

I would appreciate if you share your experience. Any advice is welcome.
