Chef party

Anybody ever been to one of these before?

I am going to one at a friend's tonight and not quite sure what to expect.

All I know is the chef comes to her house, cooks dinner with her products and then we look through a catalogue and see if we'd like to buy anything....

Do you do things with the Chef's turkey baster?.. you've gotta ask haven't you, I've never heard of one of those before but to me it sounds a bit suspect.

    Let us know eh?

Sounds like a modern version of a Tupperware party. I didn't know they were still going on as a viable marketing technique.

EDIT: But then, I have a very innocent mind and was assuming you were being sold saucepans, frying pans and so on.

I went to a Pampered Chef one last year. Very expensive stuff.

I bought a couple of cheap things and sold them on Ebay so I didn't lose out!

    You lot, how rude! :-)

Yeah I think it is a bit like a Tupperware party - I hope it's not too expensive! We moved into our new place on Sat and have spent far too much this month on new sofa etc!

Should be fun though - hopefully I can get away with buying a wooden spoon or something! She can't force me to buy anything can she!..... Can she?!?!?!?

Phunky tried so hard to keep this thread serious.

Having said that, the last Ann Summers party I went to did involve veggies...

Sorry Helen, but you can't really expect much better from us calendar males on here and having just re-read the thread title, I now have that infamous South Park jingle playing in my head...

It was alright! It was a Pampered Chef one - I see what you mean about their stuff being expensive, but I managed to get away with only buying something for ร‚ยฃ9!

The woman was a bit pushy - I stupidly ticked I may be interested in hosting a party (thinking they might post me something) and she had me trying to book a date there and then!!

Unfortunately it wasn't as exciting as you guys are all making it sound, ha ha!!

ร‚ยฃ9 sounds good. I thought the dishes were far too expensive.

The problem with hosting one is that everyone knows it's going to cost them something - and you choose to buy something that's cheap, rather than something you will use.

    Re:Chef party

They had 20% of their stoneware stuff last night, but I still didn't buy any of it.

There was a griddle frying pan for ร‚ยฃ80!!!!

Yeah I know what you mean - you do feel pressured to buy something.

I cheated and looked online before I went, picked something I liked and would use and was cheap! He he!

She had a cool food chopper thing but it was ร‚ยฃ25! Yeah it chops things up very quick but I'll just do it myself thanks!

I doubt I will host one.... I was just being polite!!

I was tempted by the Chopper too - and the dishes were nice, but not nice enough.

You can buy the stuff on Ebay for a bit cheaper.

Exactly - good stuff, but far too expensive!

There was a pizza cutter for ร‚ยฃ8!!! Sorry, but I got mine in Ikea for about ร‚ยฃ2!

Yeah I imagine it is much cheaper on eBay - not really bothered about getting anything though, just went for my friend's sake really as she was hosting!

I cant imagine that this does the job any better than a regular knife?

I agree - a handy tool to have, easier to use than a knife! It's a wheel which you just run across the pizza. However, I'm not paying that much for one!

I must admit. Im really into cooking, but some of the stuff they advertise nowadays. 'The Jamie Oliver shaker' Its just a ร‚ยฃ25.00 pestle and morter!!!!!!

    Re:Chef party

I know - some of it is so stupid.

They had a thing last night which looks like a comb with metal prongs - you use it to hold something whilst cutting it with your other hand. What's wrong with a fork?

Also, a cake tester - a long metal rod to poke in the cake and see if it's done, again - what's wrong with using a knife?! Other than the mark it might leave I guess..

That's all it was - a metal skewer!

Some of it was just really silly.

Ah well, I'm happy with I got anyway!

There was also a pump thing for your handwash - she said you fill it up with a tiny bit of handwash, top up with water and then it lasts for ages!

She said she's been using it for 3 months and it's only a quarter empty! I was pretty disgusted that she was washing her hands with 3 month old water - eew!
