Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Helen, if your knuckles are still sore, I suggest you stop beating up the old man
 0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
You can't beat an old man!

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Now at home.Done two year ends today so I think I've earned my money. If you organise properly you shouldn't have to work all those extra hours. I work over when required but because I've got things well organised I can go home on time. Now time to start studying and preparing for parish council elections cos I'm standing again this year.

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
New CIS, PAYE year-end, financial year-end, installation of complete new computer system, day job that normally needs 10 hour day = extra work needed!

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
PA does all paye year ends for the 50 or so clients that we do wages for. She has all p35's ready for boss to sign off next week. She has started verifying cis for the clients we do cis for, about 10( with up to 20 subbies each) and I do all year ends and vat. No vat this month so concentrating on year ends. Told all clients that I need work in asap because I am now working alone. so far they are being efficient. Makes a change!
I hope that you are able to get up to date soon. Working late on a Friday is rotten. I used to when I was in sales.0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Better to carry on and finish it tonight than work tomorrow.
Luckily I am up to date - everything was reconciled when I did the last quarterly accounts, which helps.

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
I keep running year ends when I do the vats so it doesn't take a lot of work to finish the year ends of the vat clients. But I still get bags/boxes of c**p to sort through from some clients, they just cannot manage the art of getting their accounts organised. No wonder some of them end up in a mess.0 -

I knew I needed to leave practice when I began to get the urge to burn or shred...farmergiles wrote:bags/boxes of c**p to sort through from some clients

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
We shred everything, but we do scan it on first0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
On a seperate note, I've just opened my mail and today I've just received a beautiful enamelled HM Armed Forces Veterans lapel badge, to wear with pride. Ex RAF and proud of it.0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Hey so you should be. Well done. My husband is ex RAF and my stepson is in now. I'm very proud of them both.

Now that's my kind of accountancy!0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Unfortunately we have to do the "work" bit before we shred. It would be so much easier if clients just shoved all their paperwork straight into the shredder  :twisted:0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Wow - have I found the back door unlocked?0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?

Looks like Malcolm has gone all shy
Is this the only site working? or were we just early birds,Helen? 0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
The rest dragged themselves in at different times during the day. Mandy was locked out for most of the day and you'd gone AWOL - so I was all alone!

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Wasn't so much awol, more a case of having to justify my ten bob a day wages. Had a couple of year ends to do and then off to college to do plc subsidiary consolidation accounts.0 -
Re:Introduce yourself thread?
Hi All
I'm jps (obvious giveaway by the username)
I'm 44, currently slogging my guts out for a letter delivery company that covers the whole of the UK.
Not enjoying it at all, currently looking for a job in an accounts environment. Something that will give a sense of purpose, satisfaction and progression.
Have just given up television as I can't afford to renew the licence on my money. Moved from London to Cumbria (always wanted to live there) not enough hours at the letter company, so moved again to Derbyshire (don't enjoy it here at all - dull county), wished I'd stayed in either London or Cumbria.
I like cooking, DIY, going to the gym and reading. Can't afford to do much else. Looking to move again when I've finished decorating. Watch this space.
Also looking for back issues of aat magazine anyone looking to "recycle" theirs send me a pm. Thanks.

Re:Introduce yourself thread?
good morning,JPS and welcome to the mad house. You do realise that only certified people are allowed on this thread? Any sign of normality and we will actively ignore you.
I have moved around the country before settling in Yorkshire, where there does seem to be a glut of accounting type jobs. Have a look ay the Reed website.
Everyone who matters will be on parade from 0900 onwards, speak again then.

I'll have to put an edit in about early birds, then?
I think I beat even you to it today,Helen. "She who must be obeyed" woke me at 0500 going to the loo and at 0600 she brought me a cup if tea and "requested" that I got up!
So if I sound ratty, tired & bad tempered today, ITS NOT my B****Y fault :x0
