Re:Study Buddy
Life isnt about work Gem, although you need to be happy with the lifestyle your income provides, that is the most important thing. You need to prioritise, and you are old enough not to have to be told what is best by your parents. They can advise you, or opinionate, but ultimately they should respect your decision, and be happy that you are happy.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I should never be in this line. It's taken me a long time to realise it.
However, I do enjoy it and I earn a good salary, but life is too short to waste it.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Every time I make my mind up and tell my mum i want to go to uni she persuades me against it0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Dont sound like youve made your mind up then Gem.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
It has to be your decision.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Awh can one of you make my mind up for me? :P
This is really what I want to do, but money is a big issue for me. I am motivated by money, and although the first job in the field isnt great pay, especially when youve studied hard for 4 years and have a debt of ΓΒ£20000, the pay gets really good when you start climbing the ladder.
I keep contacting labs across the country to find out how long you're in a junior position for but none of them have got back to me. If i'm gonna be at the bottom for 1 or 2 years then the pay is fine, but if im gonna be down there for anything over 5 years i cant do it.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Pass your level 3 Accounts.
Have a fantastic summer.
Go University...
:?:
You don't have to repay the debt immediately, so forget about it...

Re:Study Buddy
Personally I would put all my efforts into finishing AAT Gem, so you have a bit of paper. Then if you can still commit to uni, go for it!! Only my opinion though.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
all depeneds on new technology and crime rates - if more and more technology comes through that can cath killers, discover new micro-organisms and other techno-babble cack, then promotion will probably be a lot easier as if say the country all of a sudden restored capital puinishment.
I do agree that you have to do the right thing by yourself, it's better to regret doing something than to regret not doing it.
I too am money driven, I like the lifestyle it brings - but I also enjoy my jb so I am lucky enough not to have to like a job just because it pays well. I'm sure you'll make the right choice... everything happens for a reason.0 -

I did think that, cos then if forensic science isnt for me I can definately get back into accountancy. I think if I left now I wouldn't be able to get back into accountancy after uni because all employers would think that I can't commit to one job.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Sorry... Had to check my emails.
Can you delay for a year, finish your Technician, then go to Uni? (as, I think Paul was suggesting...)
I wouldn't worry about switching around Gem. You will probably do it several times in the future.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Ooh. That was weird. Did anyone else feel it?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
So my telepathic thoughts are getting through and making the earth move for you then, Helen?

Re:Study Buddy
Assertiveness...
Repeat point until sinks in!
One person asked permission, some were invited, and others invited themselves...
Anna has disappeared, mentioning my name incurs penalties, Rae spends most of her time PMing and Katie is too stressed from work to notice anything...

Is that shouting?
There seems to have been a fall in the quality of broadcasting. More investment required...
The old ones are the best. Was the 'olden days' really all in black and white?0 -
Re:Study Buddy

sorry - don't understand this. shouldnt i have posted before.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Morning everyone!
Sarah - no, I think the idea is for anyone to feel welcome (although I do recall being invited by one of the girls via a PM - but it took me until the 70's to dip a toe in)!
The only requirement is being daft enough - hence the high number of contributors!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
As Helen says, don't worry about it Sarah, nearly all are welcome. No-one needs an invite and they never have - it's an open Forum on the AAT servers and all you need to do is contribute. Even people who crazily believe they have the copyright to this thread are allowed to post...

ok - I think!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Sounds like a plan Gem!
If you only have technician to do then it's wise to finish it. You mentioned earlier about the amount of forensic scientists going for jobs, well, I wouldn't worry about that until you have qualified and actually looking for a job. You could be the top student with top marks, don't forget and YOU could be head hunted!

Good luck, I would love to be able to go into my dream job but I'm saving that for retirement
Mandy

Re:Study Buddy
Morning Mandy!
How are you today?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Alright H!
I'm working from home again today, it's so much better than the rabbit hutch I generally work in and I actually do more work. Sounds hard to believe but there are no distractions, no people chatting, no phone calls, no wondering off for a cup of tea and I HATE daytime TV!!! yuck! How can people watch it? :roll:0
