Can anyone work this out, I would appreciate it if someone could!!!:001_smile:

3 MEN GO INTO A HOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS £30.00. SO EACH MAN PAID £10.00 AND WENT TO THE ROOM. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY £25.00

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH £5.00 ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT £5.00 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A £1.00 AND KEPT THE OTHER £2.00 FOR

HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID £9.00 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF £27.00, ADD THE £2.00 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = £29.00

WHERE IS THE OTHER POUND? :001_unsure:

52217052223But yes, I'm confused again now - any further answers out there??

5808The £2 that the bellboy kept should be taken off 3 x £9 = £27 - £2 = £25, the amount that should have been paid for the room.

To get the £30, it's 3 x £9 = £27 plus 3 x £1 (which the men were given back) = £30.

6,970Heres one thats been driving me nuts and its prob simplier than it seems have a go

O and post your answers and i will see if its right

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

The challenge is on - can you open the spreadsheet?

This is a real 5th grade math problem. If you can open the

Spreadsheet, you'll see that only a small list of people (older than

5th

Graders) have gotten the correct answer. This is not a trick question.

This is a real math problem so don't say that a bus has no legs.

There are 7 girls in a bus.

Each girl has 7 backpacks.

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.

For every big cat, there are 7 little cats.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

1,438343 x 7 =2401 little cats

Total cats = 2744

Total cats legs = 2744 x 4 = 10976

Girls legs = 7 x 2 = 14

Total legs = 14+10976=10990

Then i bet theres something stupid like add the bus drivers legs?

522522But aren't we supposed to retain information when read - maybe that's the real test here!

6,970Gem you got it right

522That's something for the over 40's!

6,9701,657218From the 3 men's perspective the total cost of the room is £27 in total (£9 each)

that is (25 divide by 3) plus £2 tip to the boy.

The illusion (or the classics student's understanding) is that your are adding £2 to £27 to say that the cost is £29 But in-fact it is only £27 (including £2 for the tip) i.e £30 less £3 = £27

The correct answer should be that the total cost is £27 and the tip is £2 therefore the cost of the room is £8.33 for 2 men & £8.34 for one man. and the cost for the tip is £0.66 & £0.67 respectively.

1,438It's not that, I'm just a good accountant!

And I'm 19 on monday! Year 5 was a long time ago. Is 5th grade year 5 at primary school or is it year 11 in high school?
