its pretty obvious that they have switched examiners, if the examiner had been the same the paper would have been written like the previous years paper.....

You can move on to the next level at our college, check with your tutors...Im sure they will be accomodating. I have been studying 2 modules at the same time (ECR and DFS technician - I have another exam on wednesday and Im scarred that one will go as badly as this) its not easy studying 2 modules, with a full time job not in accounts (oh and trying to have a life)

    ecr

whever put that exam together should be sacked!
I agree that changes should be made each year, but they should be evolved over time, not just to completely change the format of the exams in one sitting!!
I dont think they realise how much effort people put into these exams and pulling stunts like this one is just making everyone frustrated and annoyed!!

Just to repeat what everyone else seems to be saying - that was a real stinker of an exam. I even double checked the front cover of the exam paper to confirm I was doing the right level!!
I too have done all the past papers and don't recall any of them being as bad as this.
Pretty sure I'm heading for that June resit.

When I read through the paper in the first 15 minutes, I already resigned myself that I am going to fail this exam, unless the AAT have a serious think about what they have done in putting this ridiculous paper (section 2) together that no-one understood because we weren't taught a lot of it. The formats totally threw me on questions that I'm sure I would have been OK with normally, and I just found myself stressing out over it. The funny thing is I thought I was the only one at the time who must have looked puzzled at the paper, but then to find that everyone else was the same.

I heard on the grapevine that my teacher wasn't happy about the P & L question and is making a complaint to the AAT about it, so maybe there is some hope for us all...

I checked the front of the paper aswell to check I had been given the ECR paper. Just looking through the paper when I received it I knew I wouldn't be able to answer it and knew that I'd fail it. So disappointed that all this hard work has gone to waste, just wanted to cry in the exam. Cannot believe how bad the paper was. Now the really long wait to February. :(

OMG, i too checked the front of the paper to see if i was doing the right one, everyone found it tough, lets just hope that AAT acknowledge the fact that everyone found it so difficult and lower the pass rate.

Glad it wasnt just me with the P&L part of section 2 but just went back to filling out a P&L account as if financial infor and hoped for the best!!

Must be honest I turned the page at 14-03 (at Dartford) and nearly fell off my chair. I echo all those who have compared this paper to the other past papers dating back to 2003. This was a lot lot harder than any of those!

Looking back I actually liked section 2 more than section 1 because quite simply I have put all my energy into section 2 whilst revising/past papers so was delighted with process costing, limited KGs and NPC rather than NPVs!

Group bonus question really confused me in section 1 and this is the question which when looking at the other past papers for me is a bit naughty as was just tough to follow and actually get to what they wanted!!!

Overall not too sure but glad it is done and roll on February!!

    ECR exam :(

I too was gutted with the ECR paper today. I did most of the pastpapers twice, learnt the formulas and was confident going into the exam, section 2 was really tricky and some real wild card parts to questions in there that really threw me, I so nearly gave up and went home! Lets hope FRA on wed won't be as different as ECR was different to the past 5yrs.

I'd read something in the AAT magazine that they'd be changing some content in exams this coming academic yr - have they started changing it already?

i am hoping they give you marks for trying the questions.....as i have FRA on weds i applied what i knew about opening costs and cost of sales to the P&L queastion

i think they gave us maybe 50% of the exam on questions they knew we could do easily and the other 50% half of it to actually get you and the other half to keep you wondering that is nasty!

I thought it was 40 as well but after this afternoon have realised I know nothing......felt quite confident to start with, have done so much revision and was comfortable with the layouts of the exams. Five minutes into the reading and I felt sick, there was so much I that I didn't have a clue on........aaaarrrrgggghhhh
