Now, can you all please help me? I want to apply for the head of finance job at HSBC....I have my AAT and 4 years experience and I will NOT take a more junior role!!! Any advice?

Hi Yestin....imagine you are the DOF selecting the person for the position, 10 apply (there will be more than that applying for it)

5 are fully qualified accountants with experience ranging from 5 to 20 years, the other 4 applicants are part qualified with experience ranging from 5 to 10 years.

You need to shortlist to 5 for interview.

What group would you start with?

But good luck if you do apply

I see ive missed a lot o dear glynis sorry to hear you didnt get the job but sorry to say am not 100% surprized like others have advised if you dont mind the pay cut and up in work load you will have no choice if you want to work in practise but take the lower postion offered.

It would be the same if i wanted to transfere to industry i shouldnt and wouldnt expect to jump into a management job but would have to start again.

I know you will get toally hacked off at what ive written but with 5 years in practise i would like to think they wouldn't offer anyone a job above me without the known experience to jump in a role bigger than mine.

    Good luck

Your threads are like a sitcom. You should turn them into a script for the next series of 'The Office'.

I must admit, Glynis'es threads are indeed tragi-comic Office-like, mixed with equal measures of unintentional humour, disbelief, sympathy and sometimes a shake your head in horror feeling. Am I the only one who approaches them with just a little apprehension over what the next painful twist may be?

No, you are not alone, I'm afraid to admit.

this might be a really silly question

is working in practice doing accounts for other clients whereas working in industry you are doing your own companys accounts ?

    thanks
