I think I should apologise profucely for this thread. Especially to steve.
Sometimes I become frustrated at the way we are sometimes stopped from acheiving our goals and this goes in the threads.
I apologise sincerly. Steve I hope you can forgive me for the intrusion into your life.
Glynis
We all make mistakes and/or say things in life that, on reflection, we might not have done. This is called life, and unfortunately there's no getting away from it. The secret is what we learn from these mistakes?
I did think your comments about my route to qualification were extremely personal and (again, on reflection), I would have preferred you to ask me on a PM rather than on a thread. However, I have discounted this on the basis that you are having a very stressful time at the moment with your studies and stress affects us all in different ways - some people go 'into' themselves, others 'lash out' - you 'lash out' and it wouldn't be right if we were all the same as it would make life somewhat boring.
Glynis I respect the fact that you have admitted your shortfalls on this thread and I sincerely hope things work out for you. However, I would also urge you to take advice from other contributors on here who are all as equally experienced on the forums and try to take the advice of everyone who offers it to you - after all, that is why we have these forums!
Best wishes

I didn't say she should apologies to me personally, but to others that she discriminate and consider unexperienced based on their age for example....
Looks like Glynis only have respect for Steve and Sandy, everyone else is irrelevant...thats why she gave an apology only to Steve.
Lots of you spend your time (actually waste your time) in helping and giving advice to her, but do you get something back? not only that, but then she also have the courage in another thread to say that "in this forum nobody help me" or something similar....0 -

Which is why I am encouraging Glynis to recognise the fact that everyone on here - students, MIPs, qualifieds, tutors etc. are all able to offer sound advice and guidance no matter what the issue.
In fact, if Glynis does post another 'FAO Steve' thread, I am going to make a personal pact that I will not actually answer it - rather throw it to the floor!
Best wishes

In fairness to Glynis the post was "FAO Steve"
The fact is "WE" including myself like to GIVE ADVISE under the guise of HELP. Surely we should not have interfered but being a member of a helpful forum.........
Sadly under the guise of help and advise, we fanned the FIRE and continued to enjoy the specticle of different emotions.
Should we be thanked for this?0 -

Sorry but i did start a comment and i will finish it there is no wasteful advise although i dont not and never will advocate what was asked and the way steven was disrespected in the thread and was totally disgusted i feel there are no wasted forum threads - who knows someone out there was probs in a simular postion and wasnt sure what they could do.
Londina i have noticed in the last couple of months you never offer advise or words of encouragement or even take part in a discussion but only to jump on the glynis FAO steve threads - if i am wrong please prove me wrong and accept my apologies.
Yes i may be gobby but try my best not in too many negative ways.
Steve your a gentalman and a scholar and feel the way you have handled this whole thread proves it.
Am off easter with the loved one have a great one all and see you after the break0 -
I take Londina's point as much as Steve's always carefully considered posts and Glynis's outbursts and subsequent apology (even if it was seemingly only to Steve).
Being helpful on the forums isn't solely restricted to answering the numerical questions on the study threads - like some others, I'm now completely unable to do many of these as it's so long since I studied and much of the knowledge isn't even in monthly use - but it can also be taking part in some worthwhile (and not so worthwhile) discussions as well as offering advice and opinions based on personal and/or work experiences.
Besides, controversy adds spice to the forums - usually these threads are the most read and commented upon - and if we were forcefully toned down by admin intervention or constant fear of causing offence, it'd be a sad day.the way steven was disrespected in the thread
Steven to you now is it Vic? Snob ;-)0 -

A-Vic
Like Blobbyh is saying, as I'm nearly finishing my studies, I'm not available that much like I used to be to offer help or advice on the units, if you check all my previous posts you will notice that since I did the exams last June 09 for DFS, BTC and MAC I spent less time on the forum, this doesn't mean I lost interest or I don't care, just I have less time and job/personal commitments that take priority in my life. Again, if you check all my post, you will notice that recently I participated to discussions about membership, jobs and other topics related to nearly members like me.
If I could be helpful in some thread, I will, it's not a problem and others in the past have always appreciate my help.0 -
Steven to you now is it Vic? Snob ;-)
There's only my immediately family that calls me Steven (mum, dad, stepmum and bros). However, my mum went absolutely beserk when my first book came out and the cover referred to me as Steve - she said "you weren't born 'Steve', you were Steven!"
Think I made a mistake there!!!0 -
Robert - believe me - and anyone who have been on my courses will tell you - my hair is definitely not that long and not that black!0

*sigh* there goes my dream out of the window again...I think I should apologise profucely for this thread. Especially to steve.

At this point I would like to point out that Glynis did apologize to everyone and not just to Steve and that she just mentioned Steve especially to all of those that might feel they missed out somehow. (Although this is a FAO Steve thread and we all voluntary answered.)0 -

Well i have to say I am bitterly disappointed to have missed out on this thread......whats happened to you people while i was away??
Anyway I would like to add my own thoughts to this whole thing.....as i feel as though the many valid and very well thought out posts have missed out on one very important aspect of this whole thread...and for what its worth I would like to give it a small mention.
What a load of B******s.
Happy Easter everyone, enjoy your break......if you get one!!0 -
Lee, I couldn't agree with you more. Well said.0

Hi,
I've seen Glynnis complaining about her ACCA struggles but why exactly are BPP taught courses for the ACCA so good?
I've noticed you only get around three days of tuition. Comparing that time with the amount of time I'm studying using a study text I've purchased, it just doesn't seem much.

Hi
I did BPP courses for CIMA and you tend to get 3 or 4 days tuition (for ACCA or CIMA) depending on the size of the paper. You also get tutor support right up to the day of the exam, by phone, email and you can submit assessments for marking.
Three or four days may not seem much, but having also tried home study for CIMA I can say that you do get a lot more subject coverage in three/four days of tuition than you can by studying at home for three/four days. Being taught a subject is generally quicker than reading it for yourself and also the courses cut out a lot of the superfluous text you can get in books - one of my lecturers actually said the BPP texts contain too much and cloud things.

I'll second that, also if you don't understand something you can query it straight away.
You cannot underestimate the value of those progress test either, to have something that you don't have answers to that will be marked by someone else is really useful.
I think the fact that your extra work is targetted also makes a big difference.
I admire you Mark for attempting home study, I know I just didn't have the motivation to do it (which is evidenced by the fact that I still haven't started my degree project) so needed the support that BPP gave me.0 -
I'm definately going to persevere with the study text but I'm also getting myself on a BPP taught course in the summer.
The BPP study text is very thorough but I feel it may be a little too detailed and can be hard to see the wood for the trees.
I really perform best in exams when I'm focused on what I need to pass the exam and sometimes don't have the discipline to move away from the detailed narrative.0 -

Sounds like you'll benefit from a BPP taught course. I sometimes found that Kaplan (FTC as they were) books were a little more clearly lade out. I also tried studying self study for the main bulk of the study followed by a BPP or Kaplan revision course as the revision courses were a little cheaper. But attending a BPP taught course was a real breath of fresh air.

Not sure what you are implying but believe me I am not talking "bollocks" as you so eliquently put it.
I have looked at BPP but there is noway I can afford there prices. I have also looked at LSBF and they are also expensive. Think I might have to take a bank loan to get through it.0 -
...Think I might have to take a bank loan to get through it.
Have you considered a career devlopment loan? Not sure if they are still about but a "google" would point you in the right direction. I used a credit card to spread the payments of my early fees as the rate was lower than a small bank loan.
Neil0 -
Oooh I will sure look at that. Thankyou Neilh.0

Aww thankyou for that link. At least there's help out there. I feel much better.0

I am looking in to this for my CIMA studies later in the year.
I did send you PM with the details a little while ago but maybe you didn't get it.
