Click on [thread=24021] unit 6 blog [/thread] to see the thread linked to a series of blogs I wrote two years ago.
As the Chichester class will start looking at labour cost on Wednesday 28 September 2011, here are two more links.
Labour cost pdf
and
The aat-interactive link where you can see the blog discussion and have the opportunity to see other blogs on this site.
These are not extra homework, and are effectively the same. If you click on Labour cost full article it takes you to the Labour cost pdf.
If you make the time to look at it, I think you'll prepare yourself for the class.
A second bit of preparation is to do some ironing!!
See how long you take to iron specific items, make a note of how long it took, and I'll let you know how we'll use the information in the class.Sandy

Hi everyone!
On what basis should we apportion Telephone charges in the homework P.17a? It doesn't seem to fit overly well with any of the options..
Thanks, Becci0 -
Pg 17a - telephone charges
Haven't even started yet Becci - Ive been at the office since 7.30 and and won't be home until 7pm - when homework will commence. If it's not too late I will post a reply then? Sorry, but my working days are very long - so homework only happens late at night.
Have you looked at either the Floor Area or the amount of work each dept is doing and work out a proportionate percentage for it? I haven't seen the Q - so I'm going from top of my head.
How did you do on ITX last night?
Hope you are enjoying your day today.0 -
Whenever you have the time, just let me know how you decide to work it out. We have the Floor Area, or Direct Labour hours budgeted, but neither really makes sense to me as Telephone charges seem an admin thing, and we don't have any Department names to go by, only letters. Maybe there isn't a specific answer... we'll have to wait and see what Sandy says!
Passed ITX wish they had a marking system with percentages though... How did you do?
Becci0 -
I have answers for different approaches (as you'd imagine)
Floor area is logically no worse than any other - but it gives easier numbers to work with!!Sandy

I passed ITX too .. I think there are %'s - I'm just trying to figure out how to get them. Not sure if Lesley gets them or if we apply to AAT for them - I'd also like to know how much I achieved.
I have also gone with floor area - simply because there was a definite measurement for each dept. As Sandy say - it has easier numbers ... think back to class when he asked us to divide one number by another and get a "constant" by pressing the multiply key twice - then use your floor areas. I must admit - it's taken me half an hour at least at the end of a busy day to try and fathom exactly what the heck we are supposed to be doing with this homework. Sorry my response is so late - I stayed at office to finish the most important job of the month ... Salaries :-)0 -
Floor area it is then thanks Sandy! See you tomorrow0
-
Do you ever sleep Sandy?
I never seem to have time left to spend much of it on the Internet - it always seems to take too long! and plays havoc with the eyes when you've been in front of a computer all day.
Oh ... and someone's painted the moon black!0 -
I passed ITX too....
Page 17 - section a is easy... confused about the rest0 -
Easy Peasy - lemon sqeezy ..
Yeah! When you've had all the time in the world - lazing about having a lie in - before sauntering off to the library to do it all at your liesure!! I've finished Pg 17 now Ronnie - just starting the rest ... R u awake? Watching a re-run of East Enders?
squeezy has a "u" i it whoops!0 -

I'm still on page 24 β¦ pulling my hairs moment0
-
Finally homework done⦠two things I missed at the beginning
1. Store rent and rate is not provided (as per page 20), so I left store rent box empty
2. Absorption rate calculations: as per page 18 Jenny Walker has suggested to use a separate rate for each of the three production departments.
Good night all
