    OMG!

I have read lots of messages on this forum over the years, and I have literally sat with my mouth open when reading messages between Glynis and Steve.

Steve is a wonderful, helpful man, but all the constant insisting that he help Glynis immediately is really getting on my nerves so I can't help but wonder how he feels.

I'm not saying that Glynis is rude on purpose, she probably doesn't mean her messages to come across as they do, but on the whole they are demanding, require immediate attention, and lack any manners.

Guys, these forums are for the good of everyone. Please think before you post. Nobody wants to be upset, or vindicated, but manners cost nothing.

Glynis, I realise that you are stressed, but so are many others - Steve included. Lets keep these forums happy, and back to the times when everyone was willing to help and offer advice to all. And remember that there are lots of people on this forum who are willing to offer practical advice, not just Steve!

Sorry i disagree now shes just an attention seeking rude troll and totally out of order and personally i wont be offering any advise any time soon after what i read her reply was to blue wednesday!

    No Class at all

And what about how you spoke to bluewednesday?

You seem to have latched onto Steve for some unknown reason and ignore everyone else that posts.

I apologise to anyone that has been offended. I have not latched onto Steve I just need guidance in my studies and people seem to find that wrong somehow. I am 54 years of age so I am not a young person with ambition like some of you. I have had a hard life and want to make something of it worthwhile before I am far too old. If that upsets people well tough. I have put up with a lot of upset and am feeling very upset this weekend knowing that Monday is my result day.

If we are honest here, you have categorically asked advise from Steve and ignored the rest.

    Guidence on studies

You have struggled with DFS. A saga with Audit. You just managed to scrape through an easy audit skills test, and currently you have correctly come to the conclusion that you are not likey to achieve F8?????. Tomorrow's result should confirm this. So I don't understand why should you be stressed out as you already know the out come. If you pass then you sholud be pleasently surprised.

From your posts, it is clear that you are struggling with F papers. It is very unlikely that P papers will be any easier, infact they will be harder.

You are already 54. You are already far too old to make something worthwile of your career.

In my opinion you are not likely to complete ACCA in next 6 years, by which time you will be ready to collect the weekly pension payments from the post office.

Why? why? why? then take on all this stress and now ridicule from this forum.

You are not likely to be employed as an senior audit person or even as a senior accountant.

Chill out! and flow with your current life and be happy and satisfied with what you have.

I was surprised at your post being so forthright SDV, but upon reading it through a second time I find myself thinking that perhaps you are right - apart from the bit about being able to collect a pension in 6 years, as the Government are increasing the pension age for women on a rolling basis and abolishing the prescribed retirement age in October 2012!

I do wonder if you have a point about the possibility of any 'newly qualified ACCA person who is, for argument sake, over 50', being able to achieve a new position in an unfamiliar role during a recession!

Under the same circumstances, I think I would be saving my money and not paying out hand-over-fist to take exams that I couldn't really afford (especially if having to pay to take the same exam more than once) and just caused immeasurable stress and pressure in the process.

I'm 41 and have decided that; Yes, I may take 3 x ATT exams when my husband finds a job and perhaps I can afford to pay for it - but I think that I'm really a bit old for the CIMA/ACCA malarky! (Plus I have a 3 year old who needs a childhood - not a Mum who's always studying).

I think this thread's taken an interesting turn.

Glynis, I think Annie and SDV raise good points. Do the benefits of passing ACCA outweigh the costs and stresses you will go through before you get there?

Different employers have different attitudes to age, so I'm not going to comment on that, but it is something to bear in mind when weighing up the pros and cons of continuing to study.

Be proud of what you have achieved, but don't beat yourself up over things. I know tone of voice is hard to convey over the internet, but your posts often seem to have a frantic edge to them. I worry that you're going to let your health suffer to get these exams and, given the current climate, is this extra qualification going to help you enough to justify the hassle of getting there?

Qualified chartereds are taking low-paid jobs simply to get a job as there is so many candidates wanting to get experience or simply just to get a job. You might be better served to focus on your experience and not getting a further qualification. Just a thought.

    Good luck.

SDV, has Robert hacked your account? I cringed when I read your post, haha. But couldn't help but thinking 'how true.'

I was reading a thread earlier where A-Vic said her boss was on her 10th year of ACCA so she was praying for the pass tomorrow. That would make you 64 when you complete Glynis. It just doesn't seem worthwhile as maybe you won't be retiring straight away but it wouldn't be long off. And 10 years of stress, worry, panicking, to name just a few of the words I could describe you with!

You are lucky to have someone cooking meals for you. Especially a husband. He must a cooking enthusiast since you enjoyed the meal but he didn't.

I find it rather offensive that you should think I am too old to study ACCA. I have had a difficult life and want to make the rest of my working days something achievable.

Yes I do become stressed and angry that I am not as far as I want to be and it is not made easy by the anticipation of exam results tomorrow.

Is it so wrong to ask for help and try to better one self?

no but to disreguard anyone elses comments and EXPECT people to jump to your every whim shows age hasnt improved your manners. Respect is ernt not on a time scale but mutually given and received.

This is getting boring people have given you advise and you choose not to take any thats is your choice however if you dont like whats been said dont ask.

Nope, what was said is that it will probably take 8-10 years and considering the stress you're under is it worth it for a career that will only last about 5 years when it's all finished? If the answer is yes then you'll probably need to look at extra revision courses/ material etc to help you complete ACCA quicker to make the most of your career at the end.

You've previously mentioned how stressed you are (and your posts certainly back this up) and you have years and years left yet. You need to enjoy the ride!! Before you ask, yes I am young, but have a family and a house etc. So I know I cant afford to let ACCA stress me out, for the sake of my children. For you it's your health, think about it.

I'm 54. Life is over for me now.

Now you've made me feel awful :-( I'm struggling to get across what I actually mean in text. I hoping you're not offended Cullen and meant it in the light hearted way in which I read it.

If something gets you so stressed and angry (as per the quote below) then is it actually worth risking your health over considering there's only about 5 years or so left at the end of it all before retirement? If it was approached from a different angle and Glynis actually enjoyed learning, as some folk do, then I would not be saying this. I enjoyed studying AAT, but not so much so ACCA!!!

I'd recommend it. I quite like the Kaplan books, I've used both those and BPP.

I passed the F8 with nothing but the Kaplan text book so it must be ok!

To pass the auditing paper you need to use a reputable suppliers books (BPP and Kaplan are the official ones), read the examiners reports and keep an eye out for any articles in Student accountant - especially any relating to audit from now on!!

Good luck, I think doing it after DFS is a good idea whilst the accounting standards are fresh in your mind.
